I didn't just build the app.
I built the system behind it.
GyanUdaan started as a solo side project and evolved into a production EdTech ecosystem. I owned the system end-to-end: cross-platform apps, cloud backend, autonomous AI content pipelines, and the organic acquisition engine.
In 2023, I built V1 alone. In 2025, I rewrote everything.
In 2023, I built V1 alone using Java and React Native. I manually hired staff for content, designed the UI, and wrote every line of code. It successfully scaled to 15,000 users and 45,000 questions — but it also taught me a hard lesson in technical debt. Moving fast as a solo engineer meant poor documentation, creeping bugs, and architectural bottlenecks.
When we brought on co-founders and rebranded in 2025, I made a strategic engineering decision: a complete system rewrite.
I migrated the backend to Supabase for rapid feature deployment and extreme scalability. I transitioned from "solo-hacker speed" to long-term system architecture — prioritizing strict documentation, team-friendly codebases, and maintainable cross-platform clients.
Unified experience across Mobile, Desktop & Web.
Nepali students prepare everywhere — on cheap Android phones in rural districts, on laptops in libraries, and on iPhones. Using React Native Expo, I architected a single unified codebase that deploys instantly across all touchpoints, featuring smart offline caching for slow 3G/4G networks.
Low-latency mobile clients with background progress syncing and frictionless onboarding.
Dedicated desktop app for students who study long hours on laptops. Distraction-free full-screen mock exams with keyboard-shortcut answering.
Fast, SEO-optimized web hub delivering public notices, syllabus updates, and user account onboarding.
Student Mobile Experience 20 Screens
Auto-scrolling showcase: Quizzes, Analytics, Course Readers & Leaderboards. Hover to pause.
The app is only the front door. The admin panel runs the business.
Most clients only see pretty mobile screens. But an app with 42k+ students fails without a mission-control backend. By utilizing Supabase, I was able to rapidly deploy highly scalable backend infrastructure while building a custom, enterprise-grade admin platform that allows our team to manage operations without developer intervention.
Granular access for content creators and typists. Restricts sensitive payment data while enabling fast content publishing.
Direct QR/digital wallet reconciliation, automated subscription activation, and real-time revenue ledgers.
Monitors live concurrent test-takers, flags suspicious account sharing, and delivers actionable engagement metrics.
Admin Mission Control 12 Desktop Consoles
Custom operations dashboard: Question banks, user activity audit logs, and revenue ledgers.
The content changes constantly. So I automated the pipeline.
Public service exam syllabi change weekly. Government figures and general knowledge become outdated overnight. Instead of hiring a massive editorial team, I engineered an automated workflow using Google Gemini APIs and custom logic to solve the operational bottleneck.
The Result: A 75% reduction in content-ingestion time, keeping human quality-control in the loop but removing the manual labor.
The product wasn't the bottleneck. Distribution was.
Building the app is the easy part. Early on, hundreds downloaded GyanUdaan but bounced without paying. I realized that code without distribution is just a local file. I overhauled the user psychology and acquisition loop.
